IIT Patna Online BBA Degree: Fees, Eligibility, Subjects and Placement Reality (2026-27)
Research partner: College Vidya | Data sources: IIT Patna Online BBA Brochure and IIT Patna Online BBA program page
The IIT Patna online BBA is a 3-year, 6-semester Bachelor of Business Administration that IIT Patna runs in hybrid mode: live online classes, online proctored assessments and optional campus immersion. It has been offered since 2023, the first batch has graduated, and Microtek Educational Society is the service partner that handles admissions and student support. The degree itself is awarded by IIT Patna.
Short answer: this is a real IIT Patna degree with a modest ₹4,14,000 fee and no JEE rank requirement, but it is not an on-campus IIT experience. Placement help is support, not a guarantee, and the student voices we found online are mostly critical. It suits a self-driven student who wants an IIT Patna BBA and can live with a thin campus and peer life. This article uses only IIT Patna’s own brochure, registration page and FAQ, plus public student discussions and my call with the admissions team, as of October 2026.

Seats and Intake
The current brochure and registration page do not state a seat cap, but the admissions team told us the intake is 250 students, combined for the BBA and the BBA-MBA. For context, a Careers360 report at the programme’s launch in 2022 mentioned 250 seats per programme. The IIT BS programmes, by contrast, publish a cap of 240 per intake, which we cover in our IIT Patna Online Degrees article.
There is only one intake a year, in Autumn (June/July). The admissions team told us admissions for Autumn 2027 will open in November-December 2026. Dates on the registration page can change, so check it for the latest.
Is the IIT Patna Online BBA a Real IIT Degree?
Yes, in the sense that matters formally. IIT Patna’s FAQ, which the admissions team shared with us, says the programme is classified as a full-time degree, the degree is awarded by the IIT Patna Senate, and the certificate and transcript do not mention the mode of delivery. The same FAQ says IIT Patna is an Institution of National Importance and does not need UGC or AICTE approval, and that graduates are eligible for government examinations.
What it is not: a JEE-route, residential IIT experience. Students attend online, campus immersion is optional, and the admissions team told us the degree does not say ‘hybrid’ or name the service partner. The FAQ describes the partner’s role as assisting with admissions and providing student support.
Who Can Apply
Indian candidates need 10+2 in any stream with at least 60% (cumulative) and any one of the following, as listed in the brochure:
- A valid score or rank in JEE (Advanced/Main), NEET, CUET, BITSAT or a state entrance exam; or KVPY/NTSE/INSPIRE scholarship-holder status
- A valid SAT-I/SAT-II or BMAT score; or the IITP-SAT
The brochure also says candidates should preferably be below 25 years as of 1 January 2026, meaning born on or after 1 January 2001. Students appearing for 12th in the admission year can get provisional admission, but must show proof of passing by 30 October 2026, or the admission is cancelled. These dates are for the 2026-27 brochure and will change with each intake.
How to Apply
Registration is on the IIT Patna registration page. You pay a ₹2,800 non-refundable, non-transferable registration fee to apply. Fees can be paid semester by semester, and the brochure advertises a no-cost EMI of around ₹11,500 a month, subject to your lender’s approval. In the brochure’s words, if the EMI is rejected you must pay the full semester or course fee.
Fees: What You Pay and What You Don’t
| Fee | Amount |
|---|---|
| Registration (non-refundable, non-transferable) | ₹2,800 |
| Semester fee | ₹69,000 × 6 semesters |
| Total programme fee | ₹4,14,000 |
| Alumni fee | ₹6,000 |
The brochure says the programme fee includes end-semester exams and campus immersion fees, and the admissions team told us there are no other charges. Immersion accommodation is arranged by IIT Patna. Read the refund policy before paying.
Scholarships are possible through the National Scholarship Portal, and IIT Patna can issue a bonafide certificate for scholarship or loan applications. The programme is not eligible under the BSCC/DRCC scheme.
Semester-wise Subjects
The registration page lists the structure below. Course names are as published.

Elective options include Consumer Behaviour, Financial Marketing, Training and Development, Cross Cultural Management, Brand Management, Corporate Tax Planning, Foreign Exchange Management and Leadership.
Credits: the sources do not agree. The admissions team told us the BBA is a 156-credit programme (and the BBA-MBA is 256). The registration page states total minimum credits of 165 (“153 + 12”), while the semester-wise credits listed on the same page add up to 146 (four semesters of 20, two of 23, and the 20-credit Year-2 project). Re-check the credit total with the admissions team during the application process and get it in writing.
Specialisation Tracks
In semesters 5 and 6 you choose one of four tracks, each with its own electives:
- Marketing: International Marketing, Digital Marketing, Services Marketing, Retail Management, Advertising and Sales Management, Strategic Marketing, Rural Marketing, Integrated Marketing Communication, Tourism and Hospitality Marketing
- Human Resource Management: Organizational Development and Change, International HRM, Change Management, Performance Management, Industrial Relations and Labour Laws, Compensation and Reward Management
- Finance: Financial Analytics I and II, Financial Reporting, Financial Derivatives, Principles of Investment Management, Financial Modelling, Advanced Corporate Finance, Banking and Financial Institution Services, Debt Markets and Mutual Fund
- International Business Management: International Strategic Management, Export, Import and Logistics Management, Corporate Strategy, E-commerce and International Trade, International Law, International Institutions and Trade Implications
CIMA and ACCA on the Page
The registration page says that by the end of Year 2, ‘CIMA – 08 and ACCA – 07 Courses Complete’, and by the end of Year 3, ‘CIMA and ACCA – Foundation Course Complete’. Some courses are tagged ‘(C, A)’. The page does not explain what these tags or lines mean, and the admissions team did not explain them to us either, so we make no claim about exemptions or accreditation. If this matters to you, ask IIT Patna in writing what is exempted and who recognises it.
Who Teaches the Programme
IIT Patna’s FAQ says classes are delivered by IIT Patna faculty and may include sessions by industry experts and guest faculty. The brochure lists IIT Patna professors alongside visiting and guest faculty from other institutions. If you want to know who will teach a specific course, ask the admissions team for that semester’s faculty list.
How Classes Work
All classes are live online, with doubt-clearing sessions, and recordings are available for later viewing. Attendance is counted for both live sessions and recorded-lecture completion, and at least 75% is mandatory. The registration page asks you to plan for 24-28 hours of study time a week.
Exams, Assessment and Campus Immersion
Quizzes and exams are held in proctored online mode. The brochure’s assessment weights are:
| Component | Weight |
|---|---|
| Assignments | 30% |
| Quizzes | 20% |
| End-semester exam | 50% |
The brochure’s tentative exam windows are May/June and November/December each year. A re-examination is allowed if you missed the end-semester exam because of concurrent courses or unforeseen reasons, got an F in a course, or got a DD with a CPI of 5 or less.
Campus immersion is optional. It runs with the end-semester exam and includes a campus visit, the exam in physical mode, a personality-development session and a cultural event. The admissions team told us it is about 10-15 days per semester. If you choose the remote proctored exam instead, you do not take part in the immersion. IIT Patna’s FAQ says hostel accommodation is provided if you take the exam on campus.
Exit Options: Foundation, Diploma and Re-entry
The admissions team described these exit points, and the registration page confirms the Year-2 requirement:
- After Year 1: Foundation certificate from IIT Patna
- After Year 2: Diploma from IIT Patna
- Year-2 requirement: a 20-credit corporate project or internship, which the page says is proposed to be essential for the Diploma or for Year-3 entry
- Re-entry: allowed, with no separate charge or additional academic requirement, as the admissions team told us
The brochure also lists ‘Entry, Exit, Re-entry’ and ‘Credit Bank Facility’ among the programme features. Ask for the written exit and re-entry rules before you rely on them.
Placement Support: What Is and Isn’t Promised
The brochure advertises ‘100% Internship & Placement Support’ with conditions applied. IIT Patna’s FAQ says hybrid students get dedicated internship and placement assistance, run separately from the residential programmes with its own team and schedule, and opportunities are shared through the Superset portal, official email and students’ official WhatsApp groups. The admissions team told us this is not a guarantee of a job.
The placement statistics in the brochure are for IIT Patna as an institute, not for this BBA, and we have not found BBA-specific numbers from IIT Patna. So we do not quote any. Ask for last year’s BBA internship and placement outcomes, in writing, before you decide.
The 5-Year BBA-MBA Track
The same brochure covers a 5-year, 10-semester integrated BBA-MBA, listed at ₹6,90,000 in total. The admissions team told us it is a 256-credit programme. It is a separate track with its own structure and rules, so use the brochure and the admissions team for it. The rest of this article is about the 3-year BBA.
Who Is the IIT Patna Online BBA For?
We looked at who actually shows up in public discussions and in the brochure’s own features. Students who ask about this programme online include school-leavers weighing it against private colleges [1], IPMAT aspirants who did not get an IIM seat [2] [3], and JEE droppers looking for an IIT-branded alternative [4]. The brochure itself pitches ‘Concurrent Study in 2 Programmes’ and ‘Earn while you Learn’, which point to students who want to study alongside something else. We have no data on the proportions of each group.
Good fit if you
- Want an IIT Patna BBA and are comfortable with online live classes
- Are self-driven and can manage 24-28 study hours a week without in-person structure
- Plan to build your own internships, projects or a parallel course alongside
- Have verified the exam, attendance and exit rules in writing
Think twice if you
- Expect residential campus life, a large peer network or JEE-route placement outcomes
- Are counting on a guaranteed job or a particular salary
- Are choosing it only for the IIT name; compare it with offline BBAs on fees, peers and outcomes first
- Cannot commit to the weekly hours and 75% attendance
What Students Say Online
The few public examples we found [1] [2] [3] [4] are largely critical of the programme. The main concerns raised are a thin campus and peer experience, doubts about placements and grooming, a feeling that hybrid students are treated as secondary to on-campus students, the role of third-party partners in running the programme, and whether the degree is valued like an on-campus IIT degree. These are individual opinions from anonymous posters, so treat them as concerns to check with the admissions team and current students, not as verdicts.
Other Options to Compare
If a management programme with a technology angle appeals, IIT Jodhpur’s BS in Management & Technology and IIT Madras’s BS in Management & Data Science are worth a look; both are covered in our IIT online BS degree comparison. They serve a different audience, so compare them on admission route, fees and curriculum, and compare the Patna BBA with offline BBAs too.

It is a 3-year (6-semester) programme. The fee is ₹69,000 per semester, which comes to ₹4,14,000 in total, plus a ₹2,800 non-refundable registration fee and a ₹6,000 alumni fee. IIT Patna’s brochure says the programme fee includes end-semester examinations and campus immersion.
Kya IIT Patna BBA mein admission ke liye JEE dena zaroori hai?
No. The brochure asks for 10+2 in any stream with at least 60% marks and one valid score or rank, such as JEE (Main/Advanced), NEET, CUET, BITSAT, a state entrance exam, SAT/BMAT, or the IITP-SAT. The brochure also lists KVPY/NTSE/INSPIRE scholarship holders. So JEE is one accepted route, not the only one.
Kya is degree par ‘online’ ya ‘hybrid’ likha hota hai?
According to IIT Patna’s FAQ for hybrid UG programmes, the degree certificate and transcript do not mention the mode of delivery, so terms such as Hybrid, Online, CEP/CET or Distance do not appear on them. The same FAQ says the degree is awarded by the IIT Patna Senate.
Kya campus jaana zaroori hai?
No. IIT Patna’s FAQ says students can complete the programme without visiting the campus. Campus immersion runs alongside the end-semester exams, and the admissions team told us it lasts about 10-15 days per semester. If you take the exam remotely in proctored mode, you cannot take part in the immersion.
Kya IIT Patna BBA ke baad placement milta hai?
IIT Patna offers internship and placement assistance to hybrid-programme students through a separate process, with opportunities shared via the Superset portal, official email and students’ official WhatsApp groups. The admissions team told us this is support and not a guarantee of a job. We have not found BBA-specific placement numbers from IIT Patna, so we do not quote any.
Kya yeh degree government exams ke liye valid hai?
IIT Patna’s FAQ says graduates of these UG programmes are eligible to appear for government examinations. Individual recruiters and exams set their own rules, so check the notification of the exam you are targeting.
Kya IIT Patna BBA ke liye UGC ya AICTE approval hai?
IIT Patna’s FAQ says that as an Institute of National Importance established by an Act of Parliament, it can design courses, conduct exams and award degrees on its own, so it does not need UGC or AICTE approval for its programmes.
Kya BBA beech mein chhod kar Diploma mil sakta hai?
The admissions team told us a Foundation certificate is available after Year 1 and a Diploma after Year 2. The registration page says a 20-credit corporate project or internship at the end of Year 2 is proposed to be essential for the Diploma or for re-entering in Year 3. The admissions team also told us re-entry is allowed with no separate charge or additional academic requirement.
Kya BSCC/DRCC scheme ya scholarship milti hai?
IIT Patna’s FAQ says the hybrid programmes are not eligible under the BSCC/DRCC scheme. Students can apply for scholarships through the National Scholarship Portal, and IIT Patna can issue a bonafide certificate to support scholarship or education-loan applications.
BBA ke saath koi doosri degree ya job ek saath ho sakti hai?
The brochure advertises ‘Concurrent Study in 2 Programmes’ and ‘Earn while you Learn’ as features. The registration page says you should plan for 24-28 hours of study time per week, and at least 75% attendance (live classes or recorded lectures) is mandatory, so check that your schedule can carry both.
IIT Patna BBA mein BBA-MBA 5-year option kya hai?
It is a 5-year (10-semester) integrated BBA-MBA track from the same hybrid family. The brochure lists a total fee of ₹6,90,000 for it, and the admissions team told us it is a 256-credit programme. This article covers the 3-year BBA; check the brochure for the integrated track’s structure and rules before choosing it.
Final word
The IIT Patna online BBA is a legitimate IIT Patna degree at a moderate price, with flexible entry routes. Its limits are equally clear: an online-first experience, support rather than guaranteed placement, and mostly critical student voices. Verify the rules that matter to you in writing, and decide on the programme as it is, not on the IIT tag alone.
Disclaimer: Information is as of October 2026, based on IIT Patna’s brochure, registration page, hybrid UG FAQ and public discussions. Fees, dates and rules can change; confirm everything with IIT Patna before applying.
