The sample certificate on the program page carries a note that the original may differ, so treat this as the admissions team&#8217;s statement, not a published rule.<\/p>\n<h3>UGC approval: the wrong question<\/h3>\n<p>IITs are not governed by UGC the way private universities are. They have their own legal power to award degrees under the IIT Act, so &ldquo;is it UGC approved?&rdquo; is not the relevant test. The degree is a legally valid bachelor&#8217;s degree and generally meets the basic eligibility requirements for GATE, CAT\/MBA and government jobs. <strong>For an MS or MBA abroad, there is no blanket guarantee<\/strong>: each foreign university decides on its own, so confirm with the specific university first.<\/p>\n<h3>What &ldquo;real&rdquo; does not mean<\/h3>\n<p>A real IIT degree is not the same as an on-campus B.Tech. Negative marking applies, and the admissions team says it is 0.25 marks per wrong answer. The team also says only candidates scoring above 40% are called for counselling. Students who need a break can apply for a deferral, which is possible only after completing Year 1, only once, normally for up to one year, with 50% of the academic fee payable during the deferral.
